Default Hot Weather, Hot Bassin' 7/20/15

Went out yesterday at the lake down the street from my house and managed to go 0 for 4 on a topwater frog. Despite the hot weather I decided to go back down to see if I could redeem my horrible hooksets by adding a trailer hook to the back of the frog. Got to my first spot in the late afternoon, and it was about 90 degrees out. Take my first few casts with the frog and within a minute, BAM, FISH ON! Finally got my hook to stick and pulled in a beautiful 2.5 lb bass. Got a few more grabs after him but the action died down after a while, so I decided to circle the lake in search of some more active fish, landing a 1/2 lber and a little dink. Both caught on the trailer hook. After completing the 1.5 mile hike around the lake, decided to throw a few more casts into where I first started to see if anyone else was home. Was walking the frog in on the FIRST CAST and it got SLURPED by something BIG. Trying to fight it in through all the weeds when I got her close to shore and noticed just how big this fish was, and eventually I was able to successfully land her! She tipped the scales at 5 lbs 11 oz!!! Biggest bass that I've ever caught in NJ, only caught bigger ones down in Florida! That fish made the extreme heat all worth it! And, only hooked on the TRAILER HOOK. I don't think I'll ever fish a frog without one from this point forward, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone whose twitch reflexes get the best of them when trying to frog fish.
