It should make the NMFC take notice about the inequity between the commercial size limits vs. the recreational bag limits. Even if the weight quotas for commercial and recreational fishermen were the same, the commercial guys would kill far more fish than the recreational fishermen do. A 14" fluke weighs about 1.1 pounds. An 18" fluke weighs about 2.3 pounds. Since the commercials can kill 14" fish and we can't, they can kill twice as many fluke as we can. Which puts more of a hurt on the fluke population, fewer dead fish to make up the weight quota or more dead fish to reach the same weight? More dead fish means there will be fewer fish left to maintain the reproductive stocks. Does that make sense to anyone?
