FISH TANK - Weekend Update

Hey gang. Not much to write home about the past few days, but here it goes.

On Fri, Capt. Tommy and Capt. Ed decided to start out fluking. Even though Henry had his limit by 10:30 (no suprise there ), the action overall was pretty slow. I'm sure it had a little something to do with the E wind and strong N current which put a damper on the drifting conditions. They finished out the day making a few drops for sea bass and ling and were able to put a few more fish in the box. The 5 man crew wound up with 10 keeper fluke, a nice keeper tog and I'm not sure how many sea bass/ling, but enough for everyone to go home with some meat for dinner.

Capt. Tommy and I decided to switch it up on Sat and start out making a few drops first thing in the morning to get some meat in the boat before we went drifting and dreaming. Well, that didn't work out so well. We read fish on most spots but they did not want to chew. After a couple of hours and only a dozen sea bass and ling to show for it, we decided to change pace and break out the bucktails, spearing and gulp. The drift was the same as Fri with the lines all going towards the stern no matter how hard we tried to correct it. Our new friend, Young, who was apparently a fluke virgin (I still have my doubts about that one ) put 2 nice keepers in a row on ice while everyone watched. He told me that Alex "MVP" showed him how to rig up the week before and he was very thankful for it. Eventually everyone joined in on the action which again was slow, but we were able to pick up 5 more keepers and a dozen shorts before the day was out. I think the highlight of the day was watching not 1, but 2 different humpbacks put on a nice show for us. One of them was feeding on bunker about 200' in front of the boat and the other was breaching straight out of the water and gave us a few waves with his flipper. I have been hearing that they are around, but havent had the pleasure of seeing one so far this year so seeing 2 of them in one day was really a treat.

We cancelled our trips on Sunday and today due to the forecast. We will be sailing open boat tomorrow 7/22 and still have a few spots available. Please call or email me if you would like to join us.
