Headed out with a buddy of mine who keeps his boat on Staten Island, we usually head toward the hook, ambrose, west bank, and other areas away from port, today we stayed in the reach channel off of staten island due to the forecast (not sure why they were issuing a small craft warning, it never developed in raritan bay where we were). This may be the first time I've gone fluking and didn't catch one, we were skunked on fluke, but we had a banner day on the smooth doggies. I saw one descent fluke landed on a private boat, and I did notice some fish coming up, sporadically, on the 2 head boats working the area (with the wind against tide, especially after 11am they looked to be powerdrifting as we would drift right past them as if they were standing still). It can only get better from here.
