Thumbs up Lamington 7/6/14:

Didn't float the North Branch as I wanted to today because I had a hard time finding shuttle as just about everyone I know was out of town for the day.
Instead I went around and did some scouting for a possible river clean up. The folks over at CJST had made mention of getting in on the Lamington and North Branch this summer and I sure hope we can pull it off. 2 more big clean ups are already on the books for this summer on the South Branch.
I got in the water near Burnt Mills Rd on the Lamington and walked up a bit and got 2 really nice smallmouth, what I also found was a tire (that I put in my truck) and a big section of some sort of hose that was too big for me to move, something you would pump out your basement with. Just down from me below the bridge were 2 fly fishermen.
So it is all good, so much is being cleaned up and taken out of the rivers but I would really like to see more fishermen getting involved. You can help by submitting donations or coming out on a river clean up day. There are land based clean up crews as well as water crews. Our last clean up I don't think I saw any fishermen helping and we are the ones who are going to benefit the most from this. If interested you can always contact me or anyone of the Central Jersey Stream Team members. Also when you are out and about and see something you don't like, say something, just about every spit of water in New Jersey has some environmental group attached to it, weather it be a watershed group or a river ambassador, let them know. I've met a bunch of really great people on these clean ups and found a bunch of great water I never even knew about.
