June 1st Striped Bass report 40 pounder-Johnny Bucktails
Left the dock around 9 o'clock with just the lip. Tried a little fluking but did not have much luck. Only landed one keeper but had quite a few shorts that would have been keepers last year. Since the fluking wasn't so hot i asked the lip if he wanted to switch over to bass. He agreed but the only problem was that we had tiny fluke rods. Made bait quickly and took a little run. The bunker alone had our fluke rods bent. First drift we had a bass blow up on our bunker but never committed to it. Went back up on the drift and had a bass engulf my bunker. I saw her and she was big. Almost spooled my fluke reel with 20 lb test line. I took my time with her and tired her out. Took me a while but i got her in the net. She pulled the boga to 40 pounds. Put up an awesome fight but unfortunately swallowed the hook. Went back up on the same drift and i landed another 34 lber. It was getting late and we were starving so we headed back to the barn. Beautiful day on the water with dad
p.s: Look for my name in the fisherman
