Mcr 5/20/14:
4 Lake Trout to 24”, 1 18” Rainbow Trout, 1 skinny Brown Trout about 21” or so and 1 Smallmouth.
Get to the lake and get ready to launch when I look up and see this massive pick up truck, ya know, one of those Ford F550’s with the big diesel stacks, wap, wap, wap. Behind this guys truck is a MASSIVE baas boat. 10 million horsepower on the back. I think it had AM/FM, CD, AC, microwave, stove, fridge, sonar, radar, satellite TV depth finder, just to name a few things. I look over at my ratty beat up, paint peeling 14ft. Grumman with a set of oars. Oars are all I have in case the battery craps out, not even a depth finder on my boat. The guy launched and the boat was so heavy the electric motor could hardly push it.
I see them up there all the time stuffed into the trees, pitchin’ and flippin’. I take off in my luxury yacht.
Set up on the West flats in about 60 ft. of water.
Slow morning with a pick of lakers till about 10:30 when all heck seemed to break loose. First the Rainbow comes shooting out of the water even before I set the hook. Went ballistic. Don’t save many freshwater fish for the grill but a nice sized Rainbow is a sure treat. Felt bad as it seems the Rainbows are almost non existent in there anymore, but anyway. Next I hook the Brown that shoots across the water and jumped at least twice. Traded him one piece of jewelry for another. Got the jaw tag but had to leave the hook since it was in a bad place, no blood, swam off fine. Got the Smallmouth right after that. Lakers fought like wet beach towels. Nice day on the water. Chatted with the guy as he went by with the jerking machine, he said he got a few. 15 trailers in the lot when I got out. Boat has gone from tidy to messy. By the end of the week it should be disheveled. It’s official, I no longer have finger nails, just herring scales, herring scales all over the keyboard, what the heck. Only thing I tied onto my line today was a #8 Mustad 3906 thin wire fly tying hook. I may have to slicker up when I go out in the morning again. Sorry for all the cig butts in the pics, I don’t toss ‘em over. People think fishing is relaxing, I find it nerve racking.
Wilson, I threw my old camera out finally and the wife gave me her nice one. Didn’t use it though, just whipped out the flip phone for a pic, I’ll get there.
