Default 2/22 Moving Water Trout Attempt

Edit: It was 2/23

Hi All,

So, I headed out to the hatchery today about 6am. Was the second guy on the water, but soon had lots of company. It was my second attempt at moving water trout with spinning gear, first on a respectable trout stream. There were about a dozen guys using flies when I left, and a couple of guys spinning. Tried from the sluice, down past the bridge.

To be honest, I felt like a fish out of water. Besides being 1 of 3 guys spinning, I was the only one working from shore. I didn't see anyone catching anything but there was a lot of runoff and it was still cold. I fished for about 90 minutes, and broke my line 5 times (Berkley Vanish 4LB Fluoro). The tip of the pole was icing up, that may have been shaving the line. I was using Trout Magnets, as were the other two spinners.

Long story short (too late!), I want to try again, but It was frustrating to say the least. Anything I can change to help avoid the breakage? Technique or hardware? Is it worth getting some waders? I see people being successful from the shore, and thought I could do the same. Any tips would be appreciated!

Good luck, and tight lines all!
