Was invited on my co-workers 26' Osprey for some jigging. Left Jones Inlet with intentions of cruising/jigging our way to Fire Island where the reports off Ocean Beach have been phenominal. We stopped on some birds working outside Jones Inlet and proceeded to land some of the same GINORMOUS Blues we've recently been seeing in our own local waters. Frustrated that none had stripes, we headed East. We read bait everywhere between Jones and Gilgo/Tobay. Spent the next couple hours jigging up a variety of life - - Stripers to 23 lbs., more ginormous blues, Weakfish all less than 15", and herring up to 18". I couldn't believe that the weakies and herring were hitting our A87s and Stingos
NY regulations allow one Striper per Angler over 28" and another if over 40". Licensed boats (both Party and Charter) are allowed 2 fish over 28". Seems like most LI anglers need to be educated because there were not too many fish over 40" but everyone at the dock was bragging how they got their Two
HAd a great day on my buddy's awesome vessel, even got to play with his radar which wasn't needed on a beauty of a day. As far as the LI fish moving West to NJ, with the amount of bait we were reading between Jones and Fire Island, I bet they stay put for a while
On our return trip to Massapequa we went back thru the Fire Island Inlet. I couldn't believe the HUGE fleet of private boats and Party boats there - more in that fleet than I ever saw off NJ

I'm glad we didn't battle tha masses and had a great day away from the traffic

Will hopefully post some pics when my friend shares them . . . .
