Default EPIC - 5 Big-Eye (20 for the Year), 239 Yellowfin Since Sunday

Epic fishing is the only way to describe it. Since Sunday we’ve run 8 overnighters (4 on each boat) out of the Canyon Club in Cape May fishing our way down to the Washington Canyon and have loaded the boat each time. We caught 5 big-eyes and hooked another 10 that all pulled hooks. One of those eye-balls is our new personal best at 307 pounds caught by Capt. Dean and Greg on the 48 Viking. We also caught 239 yellowfin a white marlin and a sword. That makes I believe 20 big-eyes for the year so far and almost all of them fell to plastic – Canyon Runner Spreader Bars, Runner Series Lures, Melton Cherry Jets to name a few. More than half those yellowfin came on the chunk and averaged between 20 – 60 pounds with about a third in the 40-60 pound range. Some of these yellowfin were even chunked during the day.

Once again we’d like to thank the folks at Canyon Club for their great service and hospitality – the only way we did 8 overnighters in 4 days are the 2 hour turn arounds at the dock and the folks at Canyon Club worked hard to get us out. Also got to thank Dave in the parts department for hooking us up yesterday for a quick pit stop! You guys are great!!

Here are some more details – the pictures won’t be here until the guys stop this string of trips which looks like tomorrow and through the weekend.

July 14-15
60 Ritchie – 30 Yellowfin

Capt. Mark DeBlasio had the R. Tripp Hyer charter and they were the first on the fish with us and nailed them trolling into the dark. They pulled the hook on a couple big-eyes and unfortunately didn’t get one for themselves.
48 Viking – 12 Yellowfin
Capt Dean Lambros had and open boat charter that ended up with only 12 nice yellowfin for this trip – slowest of the week.

July 15-16
60 Ritchie
Our second winner of the Hope for Children Hurricane Sandy Relief raffle that we gave away at our Canyon Runner Seminar this winter came out with us Monday and Mike Buellow had a trip of a lifetime – 35 yellowfin and a nice big-eye around 200 pounds.

48 Viking
Capt. Dean put an open boat trip into 25 yellowfin – noteworthy was that they were getting smoked on the troll by the 60 Ritchie and by the green stickers out there so he went to the chunk at 5pm and limited out by 7pm. Way to adapt!

July 16-17
60 Ritchie – 1 Big-Eye & 35 Yellowfin
Frank Ruddy and Mark Novembre were back again – long time charters – can Capt. Mark and Capt. Craig put them into 35 yellowfin and another big-eye – again I believe around 200 pounds

48 Viking – 2 Big-Eye & 20 Yellowfin & Sword
Capt. Dean Lambros and Capt. Greg Ryback get credit this day for nailing the biggest big-eye we’ve ever caught on the Canyon Runner. Fishing an open boat trip they pulled a 77 inch 307 pound big-eye out of that mess along with 20 yellowfin and our first sword of the year.

July 17-28
60 Ritchie – 60 Yellowfin for the 60 Ritchie
The Mike Turner charter was up next and had literally non-stop yellowfin action – the crew lost count – the charter says 60 yellowfin for the 60 footer so we’ll go with that. They kept 18 all in the 40-50 pound class. Most of these were caught chunking but they already had there limit on the troll before the chunk happened. Pulled a couple hooks on big-eyes this trip too.

48 Viking – 1 Big-Eye – 22 Yellowfin
Nick Felix and his group made the long haul down to Cape May and it was worth it. The nailed a big-eye almost right off the bat then picked away at yellowfin all night. 5 were trolled the rest chunked.

Folks – this is what it’s all about – there are great charter boats down in Cape May and Ocean City, NJ – if you don’t have your own boat – get on one of them now. This won’t last forever.

Our next openings are July 29 – Aug 2 with only 1 or two spots open on the 48 Viking for open boat trips. If interested call ASAP as they will go fast – 732-272-4445.

Also - we finally got our Canyon Runner Big-Eye and Yellowfin Runner Series lures back in stock for all of you who wanted them so please reach out ASAP - I only have 100.
