I am a Southerner and have never fished the ice...don't know how to, but pics like THESE got me interested. Need to put this on the to-do list

Have spent most of my winters fishing in the Salt here, but may need a FRESHWATER approach to the situation.

Be careful, it can get addicting! You should go out with someone who knows what they're doing so you can see all the gear you need. For starters, get some warm clothes, good boots, some hand warmers and hot toes, and make sure your outer layer is windproof. I didn't know how to dress my first year out and it made for some miserable days. If you're comfortable you'll have much more fun. Maybe we can set up a njfishing ice outing so you can walk around and see what everyone is doing. Plus if the fishing isn't good you still have fun eating, drinking and hanging out. When the fishing sucks it's like tailgating.
