Switching gears 5/12/12
With the trout (and shad, and walleye) biting so well in the river, I haven't had an opportunity lately to go after bass. I decided to grab some heavier gear and head to some local spots. First stop was Lake Carasaljo, where I immediately spied a nice bass on a bed. I worked it for about 10 minutes with an LC Craw, and it finally bit. Fought and released quickly so it didn't tire out, I estimate it was about 3 lbs, my biggest so far this year. I managed another small bass on the craw, and then beat it out of there as it was getting a wee bit crowded for my liking.
Just down the road was Lake Shenandoah, so I made a quick stop there. I fished around the dam for a little bit, caught a small bass on a buzzbait near the dam, that was it. I then made the drive over to Spring Lake where the Bucket Brigade was out in full force. As usual, did not see anyone catching. I threw spinnerbaits around for a couple hours, and I didn't hook up either. Saw a couple of trout going belly-up, I wonder how many wind up dead on the bottom of that lake every year? Saw lots of carp in the shallows, they are on the move. No pics or vids this time.
