After seeing how beautiful it was today, me and the lady decided to get outside for a hike. After checking the NY/NJ Trail Conference site, she asked if I wanted to take a walk around Manasquan Resevoir. Knowing there's a few musky in there, I figured what the heck. I brought along a musky rod and some big baits to try and toss up a prayer and maybe get lucky. First off, I had never been down here and this place is pretty nice. I'd love to stick a boat in there, and although I don't have one, there is a fair amount of good shore access. We hiked the first 3 miles of the trail and came to a windswept rip-rap that looked like prime habitat for a big predator. On the third cast I nailed this chunk largemouth on a huge Rapala Subwalk. I only fished for 30 minutes total, but not a bad start to the year. There were other spots on the shore that looked pretty sexy. I'll be back.
