Had this in the works for weeks now and it finally went down without a hitch. Starting point was Milford beach, end game was Smithfield. Met up with the boys at Smithfield at 7:30 am as we were being our own livery. Headed north to Milford and I think we were on the water and the stellar Smallmouth fishing by 9 am. No shortage of these fish north of Rt. 80. Id say it pretty ridiculous. Pretty sure the majority landed upwards of 50-75 Smallies in the 3 day trip. I know I had upwards of 75 by myself in the Kayak with a bonus Striper and some Panfish. Day 1 we floated 12.5 miles to a first come first serve camp. It was small but we made it work. We ate we drank and relaxed. Scotty hooked a Smallie that got nailed by a Musky in 4 feet of water. That was crazy to watch, just wish the Musky would’ve held on somehow. The food, beverages and explosions were awesome on the first night.
Day 2, we had a quick breakfast and packed our gear. Next group campsite was at the one and only Wallpack bend. This is the hole that make angler dreams come true. On our way down the Smallie bite continues but it’s not as good as Friday. Still cracked like 25 for the day. We set up camp fairly early. Think we were all done setting up by 2:30 or so. Geaded back out on the river for the evening bite and spotted what we wanted to catch but the fish wouldn’t cooperate. I can’t believe the fish we saw were In 18 inches of water that early in the evening. It was surreal. Stripers and Walleye living in harmony but they just wouldn’t eat. Some guys gave the night bite a shot but it didn’t really materialize. Barry had high hook with a super fat 25.5 inch Walleye and Scott found some to cooperate as well. Good stuff!
Day 3, it’s time to pack up and head for the barn. This was a very peaceful last day float for the most part until hoards of people started showing up all over the river. Fishing was kinda slow but I cracked a good Striper early as well as the never ending Smallmouth. Others in the party cracked the Smallies again and spotted some Musky that swiped at there baits but never hooked up. Bummer! Ahhhhh, we’ll get those toothy critters next time. The sun was high and this was a short float down past Depew island, Poxono and the flats leading to Smithfield, about 7 or so miles. We arrived at the take out point around 2 and that was it, the party was over. END GAME! I would have surely done another day if I took more time off work, LOL. Next time boys. The trip we had this weekend goes down as one of my favorite trips ever with the NJFers! It was just EPIC!!! The food, beverages, explosions and laughs and trash talk were a blast! I already have an idea for next year. TIGHT LINEZ!!!
