Wednesday Aug 31:
Given the zero chance of making if offshore Labor Day weekend, my friend invited me on a quick offshore trip on Wednesday aboard his boat. Since everyone had to work the next day, it was just a quick 6 to 8 hour troll. The first few hours we had some pesky sharks, a mahi and released a small yellowfin. Then, we got the bites we were looking for: a double header of bigeyes. With only three onboard, this was a bit of a tricky situation, including myself having to drive the boat with one hand while harnessed in fighting my fish with my other hand while the other bigeye was gaffed. We ended up landing both in relatively short time, and I had caught my first bigeye of the season.
Saturday September 3:
Since there was no chance of taking the boat offshore this weekend, Chrisper and I decided to head out Saturday night in search of whiskered quarry. I had to run a few errands during the day before our trip, so I decided to make a quick stop on the river for pike. They did not disappoint, and I quickly caught and released a nice, healthy fish.
We decided to try a spot where I'd caught fish earlier in the season, and got set up around sunset. After a few hours with nothing to show, we moved to another spot. This 2as the right decision. I ended up with two decent flatheads and Chrisper caught an absolute beast of a channel.
Sunday September 4:
Hit the river with a buddy looking for some pike. I ended up with one fish and a miss, and he way out fished me with 4 pike to 35.5 inches.
Monday September 5:
Decided to do a little pike fishing in between errands, and they were definitely willing to cooperate. I ended up with 3 nice fish, and missed another. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!
