I had something planned for every night this week, so my prospects of an after work fishing trip were slim to none. However, my date for Wednesday night ended up cancelling, so I quickly made some new plans to take a solo trip down to the Big D.
I got set up in a likely looking spot, and sat down in my chair. I got a call from Chrisper, and about 5min later the line starts ticking off the reel slowly. Wasn't the usual flathead bite, but I knew something was up so I picked up the rod and cranked. The line was heading upriver and when the rod bent and line got tight I felt the familiar headshakes of my favorite whiskered river-dweller. I quickly uttered, "uh, I gotta call you back...I'm on..." A few minutes later I landed a healthy fish right around 14lbs.
The fish swam off and I reset and called Chrisper back. Another few minutes goes by, and my rod goes off again..."call ya back."
This fish was a little smaller than the first.
I gave it another hour with no bites, and decided to make it an early night so I could have the rare combination of a successful flathead outing and a good night sleep so I wouldn't be a zombie at work the next day. No monsters, but two solid fish and an early night meant a successful trip!
