Default The night the moon brought up a handful of walleye 6/18-6/19

Went back to my vampire lair last night from 1130 to 2 am. Much warmer night--no smoke on the water... Glad I returned as I had my best walleye night to-date on the river.

First 15 mins I banged a sweet 24" fish on a shallow running plug. Shortly after that a 20" fish. About 20 min later a smaller fish at 18". Wow... fastest river walleye limit to-date! Kept fishing...

Plug bite diminished and switched to soft plastics. Had micro to small stripers taking it on the edge of some riffles... and a nice white perch. Prob had 5 stripers and the whitey.

Moved a bit and kept lobbing the swim shad in shallow fast stuff. Got slammed by my feet. Little tussle and slid another 24" fish across my wet boots. Cool... Def a fun night! These bigger eyes are pulling pretty good. Very very aggressive. Same area I keep at it. Get whacked again. Popsicle sized walleye. Good to see the size variation. Thing was all of 10" lol. Nice easy release and the lil bugger splashes me. Good for him--love the vigor!

Lastly, I'm fishing the same exact spot still, barely moving my feet from the last 2 walleye. At the top of a riffle I keep seeing wakes like something is ambushing prey trapped in the current. I loft an underhand cast about 2-3 ft ahead of it and kinda let the river do the work. Ping! Shit... line tight and not moving. Another swim shad donated to the fish gods. Wait... this rock is moving, slowly but moving. I reel down and lean the f*ck back into it and the fish explodes up river. She felt HEAVY and was actually dumping a good amount of line. Turns and shoots down river, through some rapids and hunkers down in a pool. I slowly worked her in, got her shallow and grabbed her tail. Whoa... this is a huge river walleye.

Get to my bag, whip out the tape and lay her down. 28" on the nose beating my personal best by a half inch. Snapped some pics and spent about 5 mins with her in some fast stuff reviving her optimally. With a huge swish of her tail she drenched me and disappeared into the turbid waters of the river. Pretty f'n good fathers day.

6 walleye, a bunch of dink stripers and the white perch. Here's some porn. I'm going to the track now while I have a seemingly hot/lucky hand lol
