Keyport seahawk - season ending fish fest...AGAIN!?
well the marina didn't pull the boat out as we though they would so....OUT WE WENT AGAIN! could we beat last time? I wasn't sure we would, but we did!
as soon as we hit the ocean the birds were everywhere! we started throwing the swimbaits and got a few fish in and a few taps...it didn't really seem to be what they wanted. So John switched over to a popper and they went absolutely nuts over them! I switched to a popper and we just went to town on them! Top water action in the middle of december...hell yeah! most fish were small (22-26") and some were too small to even get the popper in their mouths. We did manage 2-3 nice 27-28" fighters though in the first rush. Then John moved us out further away from everyone and found more birds out further from shore...there we found some bigger ones! Perfect sized keepers 28-29" beauties! We had crabs so we left the stripers biting and headed to find a tog spot. We anchored one time and never had to move other than repeatedly dropping back a few feet when the bite slowed. I had 8 keeper sized tog (6 boxed) including some nice donkeys and a nice sea bass! my most tog in one trip! John had 6 keepers and a hog head. This time it was our REAL last trip as the boat is getting pulled this week haha. hell of a way to end the season...again
