6/17 - Mushin Mako & Sea Bass
6/17 - Capts. Ray and Alan had Hank and Jinx K out for Mako and Thresher today. We pointed to the Southeast and set up in 69 degree water around large whales. Within 10 minutes, Hank was fighting his first shark of the day. About 35 minutes later, we leadered an approximately 200# Thresher, but let him swim with the hopes of boating a Mako later in the day. 10 minutes after resetting, Hank was hooked up with his second of the day, turned out to be a big Blue shark. With concerns of Blue shark invasion, and having a sea surface temp picture that showed warmer water about 6 miles further south, we picked up and ran to reset in 71 degree water. That's where Hank found his Mako for the day. At 11:00 am, Hank said he was ready to pack it in on sharks. We stopped at a favorite wreck on the way in, and found sea bass 30 feet thick off the wreck and had lock and load fishing on quality sea bass to 4#. A quick stop here filled the cooler and limits with 75 keepers for Hank, Jinx, and the 3 person crew.
