Late afternoon jig rod test run
Since getting started with ice fishing last year, all I've really done is fish with a set of tip ups. While it's been incredibly productive for me in my minimal experience, I've always had a lingering curiosity in jigging. My member name would easily indicate that lol... So i scooped a combo this week with some tear drops and spoons, spooled it up last night and took it for a test run this afternoon. I set 4 tip ups and drilled 3-4 additional holes and jumped around with the jig rod. From 2:30-5:00 pm I managed 4 bass, 4 pickerel, and 2 nice perch. One of the pickerel was jigged on a Lindy toad in glow pink tipped with a mousie. It was my first ice jigged fish. There's def a learning curve with jigging, esp being as I was using a medium action rod and a tiny ass jig, but I can def see how people enjoy it so much. I'll def be doing more jigging. Looking forward to rippin binskys and some of the bigger spoons I picked up...
Not a bad 2.5 hours... Nice sunset, action, and my first fish jigged thru the ice!
