Default The motherload on the Susqy

Yesterday the stars where in alignment. I had been out to the Susqy on Tuesday only to find the river very stained. We caught fish but mostly on rattletraps, which is not my favorite lure to use on the river. I got reports that the water had cleared some, so I made the almost 4 hour journey with the yak.

The morning was foggy and started out slow. The middle of the river was still quite stained, so I did not have high hopes. Around 10am I started to pick away on them with grubs. I had probably 20 fish by 12:30 when I met the other two guys for lunch. My biggest at this point was 17". We met at an island and I started making some casts before beaching and eating. First cast a fish and then my two friends got in on the action. We got around 20 fish on grubs, before it started to slow. I then switched to a new tube color, that I had high hopes for, and I caught on fire. I had a fish or a bite on just about every cast for the next 1 1/2 hours. I ended up with over 40 smallies and my buddies added 25 to the count. The tube looked like it had been thru a garbage disposal after those fish got done with it. This was in a 50 yard stretch of non descript water around 3' deep. To look at it you would not believe that it would hold a fish,no less give up 65.

The day continued with steady action until 5pm. The smallies came out to hunt then. I nailed a 20" beauty on top water in 1' of water. This fish jumped at least 10 times will running up and down the river. I then added 2 19", 3 18", and a bunch of 17" fish to the totals. I must have caught close to 100 fish. What a day.
