Weekend freshwater report

Well - my lil guy was entered in our annual lake fishing derby (sunfish contest) so I headed up the lake on Friday night for a weekend up at the lake

Friday night- putzed around - the pickeral were on the feed - got about 6 pickeral / bunch of black crappie / 1 LMB (fished for about an hour)

Fished the night bite - got 4 stripers (3 - 4pds) few largemouth - nothin big but had a ton of action (went 6 for 15 on topwater strikes) - 11 - 1 - decided I needed to get some sleep for the fishing contest in a couple of hours. Left them biting - great topwater feed - fish were hungry

Sat AM - son fished the sunfish contest - contest is 25 sunfish - heaviest weight wins - my son ended up placing first with 10 pds 10ozs worth of sunfish - proud papa - he took the tackle box (which was a Plano 767) - was rather impressed with it

Sat Evening - fooled around - nothing crazy - caught a few small largemouth couple blk crappie. Ended the evening on my dock - son playing around with live bait and ended up capping the evening with a 5pd 1oz channel cat - and weighed it in and is now in first place in that lake category for kids. He is also in the lead for his 2lb 12 oz black crappie as well.

Sat night - was gonna go out - ended up falling asleep and waking up at 1230 only to see lighting and decided to head back to bed

Sun AM - did the morning bite and had a great morning of 6 LMB / ton of pickeral - bass were a little bigger this am - fished for two hours and called it a day.


Rods were bending - smiles all weekend / great times - nice to be up in the country while people sweltered down by the ocean

Also had no big thunderstorms come through at all.
