Fished the ponds at JFK Park in Sayreville from 10:00 to 12:00. Managed two dinks on a slug-go, plus a few other hits. Had a tube jig bit off by what I assumed was a pickerel in the big pond. Saw tons, I mean TONS of fish in the shallows, mostly sunnies, but several bass as well. Bass were very spooky; if you saw them, they saw you, and it was game over. Lots of life, even discounting the soccer and basketball sign-up fairs that were going on in the park.
Retreated to the air conditioning for the midday heat, but I was back on the water at 6:00, this time on Lake Carasaljo. It was tough finding casting lanes through all the ducks and geese. I alternated between a buzzbait and a weedless frog, and got a few swirls, but no hookups. Lots of baitfish in the shallows near shore, but nothing chasing them. I was out of there by 8:30.
Lots of fishing, not much catching, nice day to be out. Judging from the other reports today that was the story around the Garden State. Rain in the forecast tomorrow. Time for a scotch or twelve, then sleep till noon. I love the weekends!

Now the sun is just starting to climb up over the treetops,
And it's gonna be a beautiful day, that's plain to see.
But I won't be around at all, so don't even bother to call,
Cause on a day like today there's one place I gotta be:
GONE FISHIN'
