Default Sea Bass Saturday!

Started off the trip in search of Striped Bass. Tons of boats and bunker in the bay but no one catching. Strong west wind against the tide made it a bit snotty but manageable. Decided to head east to the tip of the hook. Plenty of birds and boats working by the TC but once again no action. Took a ride down the beach and the ocean was much calmer than the bay on the leeward. Went to the SHR and anchored up on some numbers I had. It was slow at first but started catching nice keeper sea bass. I was surprised the big ones where still around and the keeper to throwback ratio was very good. I wound up with 8 keepers all caught on clams. It was chilly and windy in the morning but the sun came out and it turned out to be a very nice day on the water as the day progressed. Get out there while you can. Fishing is just gonna get better Bass and blackfish soon. Tight Lines!

Nice haul. We were in the same area last week and couldn’t keep the pin cbass off the hooks. Nice job getting those keepers. Were you bait fishing or jigging?

Good for you.... Plenty around but keepers are hard to come by, seems like every fish is 12 1/4

Thanks! I use salted Clams. They stay on the hook better. A trick I found to catch bigger fish is put a bigger piece of clam on and don't set the hook until you feel like a blackfish tug ignoring the smaller fish bites. I mostly jig when I see good readings on my FF and they are stacked up! That's when the A27's get the bigger fish. Tight lines!

Great info and it makes sense to wait for the better tug... When you're jigging with the A27 are you still using you high low rig with clam and the jig on the bottom where the sinker would be or just fishing the A27?

I use just a plain ole A27 with no teaser. I have a bait caster rigged for bait and a spinning outfit rigged for the Ava! Get it in the zone and just jig up and down at a slow to moderate speed. They often hit it a on the fall! Remember most of the bigger fish are often suspended 5ft off the bottom Tight lines!
