Nailed It 09/08 Report-Inshore Pelagic/Speedster Grand Slam
Jason & I made a last minute decision to go this morning. Broke Manasquan Inlet @11:30 and headed southeast. there’s as a good size ground swell but it calmed as the day wore on. Got to where we’ve been catching and started deploying a two rod spread. I had set the first rod and and was in the process of deploying the second one when we got our first knockdown of the day. Unfortunately the hook pulled just as we started leadering the fish. Got both rods out and it wasn’t long for our next knockdown. After a short fight, I put a king mackerel on ice. Back up on the troll we next had a double header of false albacore. At this point, we decided to jig after some good readings appeared on the machine. I jigged up a #5 bonito, Jason decked a cocktail blue and we both boated a spanish mackerel. Back on the troll yielded a small false albacore and a frigate mackerel. Went back to jigging but this only produced a few chub mackerel. Another round of trolling went fishless. Ended the day by once again jigging on a wreck which gave up some nice sized sea bass (all released) & chub mackerel.
