![]() Went down to the South Jersey swamps yesterday to find some snakeheads and the rogue bowfin.
Fished hard the whole day both on kayak and on foot. Areas fished included Newton lake, and nearby tidal creeks. For some reason all the snakeheads turned to LM bass and crappie, and when I tried fishing for bowfin with cutbait those turned into channel cats and white catfish! I tell you there is some voodoo black magic down there or something.. Maybe they're not biting this time of year? I will be back later in the season for revenge. Today some wild brown trout were wrangled from New York Delaware River tributaries. Tight Lines fellas. |

![]() The more I read about them, the more I think I was down there at the right places, just at the wrong time.
Seems like both species are starting to breed this time of year and get lockjaw. As Arnold says: I will be back. |

![]() Are you supposed to kill the snakeheads up there? We are urged to kill them in Florida but it's not law yet. I have seen some of the best areas I've ever fished ruined by them.

![]() The fish and wildlife department elecrocute the tidal creeks and ponds from time to time and remove hundreds of snakeheads a year. That likely helps keep some of their population down. But they are prolific breeders and are generally here to stay as a sportfish as far as I can tell!
The fishing scene in southern NJ loves them. |
