![]() -Tilefish Trip Report- Our Sunday night tile fish trip was a good one! We had a good catch of mostly medium to jumbo golden tile fish with a number of them from 15 to 33 pounds. Fishing was good early in the day, it slowed down a little bit mid-day, and then picked up again later in the day. We had several double headers and good action for everyone. We also hooked up, what was most likely a large tuna, that almost spooled the reel. We turned it for a little bit but, then the line broke when it crossed a lobster pot. It was on electric reel which is not the best for fighting tuna. A large blue shark also paid us a visit and stole a couple of Tilefish. The largest fish of the trip was a 34 pound tile fish caught by Jimmy Kornias from Hopelawn NJ with a 34lb tilefish. His friend Gus had the hot hand catching several several large tile fish and a double header. ( the photos of Gus are different fish not the same one over and over) Paul McMillan from Howell New Jersey caught a 29 and a half pounder on a jig. He also caught a double header on a single jig which had a hook on the bottom and an assist hook on the top, and several other fish including a white hake. Particularly effective were a couple of Jigs made by the Old Man's tackle box. We have never had many anglers jig for tilefish before but, I was impressed with the way they worked, and they definitely out fished baited hooks. The jigs were fished with the small piece of strip bait on them and with 30 pound test braid. All all that was required was a light a very light bouncing of the jig on the bottom to entice a bite. (we should have Jigs available on our next trip and, also at www.boganstackle.com very soon) There is space available on upcoming trips. Our next Tilefish trip sails10 p.m. Sunday June 18th. We have Tilefish trips scheduled throughout the summer leaving on Sunday's at 10PM The Big Jamaica will sail for Blue fish 7:30 a.m. everyday except Monday. Night blue fish trip will sail Friday and Saturday night this week at 7:30PM Family Fun afternoon fishing trips will begin in July saying from 4:30PM to 8:30PM We also have Fishing and Fireworks trips on Thursday nights leaving 5 p.m. including July 4th, starting the 4th of July.
