Default Big D this morning

I met up with a couple of friends this morning, trying to get them their first smallmouth bass. We arrived in Lambertville at 7:00 and fished the wing dam for a couple hours. I caught one small walleye, and that was it. Lots of bait and small fish around, just nothing big to eat them. Made a stop by Washington's Crossing on the way back, but that stretch was too fast and shallow to be much good. We called it a day just as the holiday crowds started arriving full-force. River is still very low and clear.

I was in Lambertville last weekend. While crossing the bridge by foot into new hope, my family and I looked down by the first bridge pillar and saw a huge school of bait being feasted on by various species, but predominantly smallies and catfish. Some of them looked to be pushing 4 lbs. The cats were bigger. Massive Carp were involved too. Pretty cool to see from above.

.

I was North of where you were and did okay this afternoon despite the scorching sun in a clear sky, low clear water, hundreds of anglers running up and down the river on full plane, and an endless stream of those outfitter canoes.

Have there always been this many herring on the Delaware or did this happen after the Columnaris disease killed off the majority of Smallmouth Bass? There were schools and schools of those herring, even in mid-afternoon.

I caught a half-dozen Smallmouths with the largest going a respectable sixteen inches and a big twenty-five inch Channel Catfish.

i saw some signs of autumn style smallie feeding on some lakes recently very early in the morning. Idk about the rivers but the smallie action should get good in the lakes and res soon.

I fished the Pburg area and caught about 25 smallies with a 3 1/2 lber bring the best. Lots of surface action all day. Except in the circus areas of the river. Even caught a fish 6 feet from a guy swiming!
