Default Great Piece Meadows

I noticed Great Piece Meadows is a very popular area with pike fishermen both in boats and kayaks, but what about on foot?

I fished a small section of the area about twice before, I caught my first ever pike there, but also saw notices on the trees that no fishing is allowed.
I'm guessing no fishing on the shores is allowed but as long as you are in a kayak or boat, it is legal?

Thanks for any info guys.

It is preserve of The New Jersey Natural Lands Trust. You can fish from the shore: “The public is welcome to hike and fish on the preserve. Due to binding management agreements, general public hunting is not permitted.”

Lots of posts on here that cover this topic, some multiple pages long. Do a search and I think you'll find all the info you'll need.

Did an electric powered Jon boat trip through that whole area once fishing the whole time. Took us about 15 hours. Needless to say we didn't catch anything but we didn't see any signs of no fishing allowed.

There are numerous places to access it on foot if you don't mike walking. Some trails will get you back there if you don't mind some mud and lugging your gear through the woods. I suspect some of the No Fishing signs may be posted by locals who want to keep people out, because it's perfectly OK to fish from shore there.

Don't pay any attention to those signs. That preserve is managed by a shadowy anti-hunting group called "Wildlife Preserves, Inc.". In the fall, they dress in ranger costumes and patrol the woods looking for hunters in the no-hunting zones.

You are allowed to fish in the river, regardless of whether you are on foot or not. You can dismiss the signs as just the delirious ramblings of insane members of a vegan cult.

There are bears back there too which is kind of neat for an area surrounded by developments.

I have hunted on many of the New Jersey Natural Lands Trusts properties (the one that allow hunting of course)through the years without any issues. If your unsure give them a call,(609) 984-1339, and ask them if fishing from shore is allowed. They are a good bunch of people and answer all your questions. And get the person who manages the properties name and number in case someone hassles you.

I'll check with them, thanks!

Thanks to all who posted, all info was very helpful. Can't wait to go there again, possibly in a friend's boat.
