![]() I am hoping to go camping at Sprice Run for the first time this weekend with my dad, never end fished it before and looking to rent to a boat. I am mainly a shore fisherman and I have never fished on a boat before. I wanted to know and good bait set ups or lures to use out on the water. I am going to target anything in the lake preferably bass or pike. Thanks so much!

![]() Learn how to rig and fish a slip float / bobber setup. Lots of info on the web. Helps when fishing deep, 6-8+ feet down or greater. I'm using slip floats for the past month or more to put live bait in the 15-20 range for smallmouth.
If you decide to drift baits at SR, ask what depth the fish are working at. The wipers are a blast and drifting baits at their level is how many guys play the game. You can troll, but it take time and tools plus a good selection of lures to work the zone you are interested in. A cheap mans down rigger is a three way swivel, a large deep diving plug on two feet of line and a much smaller plug or spinner on a four foot trace on the third eye of the three way. I have done it to troll at 20-30 feet with giant spoon plugs or large deep diving plugs at Merrill Creek. Caught a bunch of trout that way there and other deeper lakes. Luck to you. |

![]() If u wanna fish bass etc work the shorelines w plastics or live bait, herring/shiners work good, just live line em and add a slip bobber rod to deadstick. If u want wipers, slow troll 2-3 rods w a naked rig and live herring, add a small egg sinker like 1/4oz and go 50ft or so out, u can do 3 rods pretty easy, u wanna be 5-10 ft down. Work the back rip rap by tower, making passes, u will pick up a few wipers. troll 1mph or less, .8-.9 works perfect for me

![]() For bass work the shore. Edges of weed beds, fallen timber, stumps, etc.
Try plastics like a Zoom trick worm or Senko (dark colors always work best for me), wacky rigged and unweighted. Or if you want to go deeper, use a Carolina rig or dropshot. Google those for info, there is tons of info out there on how to rig them, including Youtube videos. Also spinnerbaits, jigs, tube jigs and sinking Rapalas and other crankbaits. In early morning, late evening or night try working the shore and weeds with topwater plugs. Smithwick Devil Horse, Jitterbug, Heddon Torpedo, Zara Spook or the traditional floating Rapala work nicely. I've been getting good topwater results with a Rebel Frog-R lately. I also like the Rapala Skitterpop for topwater. |
