Carping in middlesex 7-15

Today fished a new lake that I heard may have a few carp. I had limited time to fish between storms but I made the most of it. Pulled up to a Yoohoo colored pond with no evidence of life what so ever. Despite my now ominous feelings I figured that I would give it a shot anyway. I started by chumming the area with creamed corn and then got my gear from the car. I put corn on both rods one natural flavored and one with a little vanilla extract. I used pack bait on the weights and cast both into my cream corn slick. I was greeted to bites fast and furious. I missed my first two run offs and caught a small bullhead. I was getting pretty discouraged but stayed with it. Finally after a few more bullheads I got one that stuck. It nearly spooled me and put on a great fight. I was solo and didn't wanna damage the fish so i snapped a few in water pics and unhooked it while it was still in the water. They stink but I was on a hill and the pics don't do the fish justice. The egg sinker in the pic is 2 ounces for reference. Feels good to finally starting to get the hang of this carping stuff.

I've been inspired to try carp fishing after reading these posts, I haven't had much luck, I did actually lose something that seemed huge tonight, but I've been chumming with cream corn and casting a corn baited 6 hook with a split shot maybe 18in above it. I noticed you are using an egg sinker. So are you using like Carolina type rig? And what size hooks?

Yeah some guys use a Carolina rig but a split shot and hook will work just fine. I caught several hundred carp over a summer or two as a child with the same rig. Moved on to fancy rigs and euro carping tactics with the same success. Finally moved on to the fly rod and by far that is the way to fish for them. Very fun sight casting to them. Now I switched to the bow but that's a different topic.

Anyways the best advice I can tell you Justin is go scout and find fish actively feeding then chum that area and fish it. A lot easier attracting fish that are already feeding in that area
