It's not the spot burning.
It's the unlicensed bucket brigade that makes your favorite catch and release spot barren, and burned...except for the trash left behind.

HA, great post !! Catching pike is the easy part. Trying to get a good picture without any distinct areas in the background is the hard part. Even though most of my spots are way away from the usual spots.....one can never give up your guard !! LOL

Ouch!

Yes, I do look at the backgrounds of all the pictures posted. So shoot me.

There are times I've posted a picture to here or on facebook with the hope that the background is vague enough that I'm not inviting unwanted attention to my 'honey holes'.

If anybody asked me exactly where I caught a fish, I'll either give a non-specific area like the name of the body of water if it's big and already receives a lot of attention or I'll flat-out lie.

My justification for that is catch-and-release only works if 80% of the anglers practice it. Any less than that and the catch-and-release anglers are only providing fodder for the selfish bastards of the bucket brigade to kill.

The other reason is bass in this area grow SLOW. By some estimates, it takes 3 years for a bass to reach the legal 12 size. A good bass, say 18 inches, is about 6 years old. I find it highly unlikely that a bass in this area can go 6 years without being caught.

I know some people say harvesting of 'some' bass is necessary to prevent over-population. The reality is, catch-and-release fishing has a mortality rate. It might be low, but bass can and sometimes do die after being released. In areas with some fishing pressure, there's probably enough mortality to prevent the bass from over-populating.

It would be fun to photoshop fish pics into famous landmarks from around the world. "Hey, look at this pickerel I caught in the Nile River! I just got done touring the pyramids (they are inflatable, BTW) and thought I would wet a line. He bit on a left handed metric kaneuder bait."

LOL
I see a lot of that on the Florida fishing forums. Because their waterways and canals are so developed, it's easy to see where a fish was caught by the condos or houses in the background.

They either use various Photoshop programs to obscure the background or use MS Paint to black it out. A few people (with too much time on their hands) photoshop themselves in places like New York City.
