Re: Big Musky Missed!
My best fishing experience in 38 years, was having a huge musky snap off my topwater bait while fishing for bass in the river outlet into the northern end of Monksville. I was fishing from shore and the musky was under the carved out river bank I was standing on. I was retrieving my lure and as my lure got about 6 feet from me, the musky exploded from under me and splashed out of the water grabbing my lure and swimming off (line snapped of coarse, no leader, just bass fishing). I was so shocked I let out a scream. It took me a few seconds to recover and realize what happened and that it was a musky; at first sight I thought someone had released a crocodile into the river/reservoir. I laugh at my reaction to this day, but that amped my fishing game up. There's always another monster out there. More recently, 2 weeks ago while bass fishing I had a smaller 30"+ musky follow my bait to the surface. He had his mouth open like he wanted to take it but knew better. He even chased the lure a bit more after he saw me at the boat and I had changed the lure direction 180 degrees. Just such a awesome fish to see..... it makes me think I may be targeting the wrong fish (bass/pike).
It's not always about the ones we land, sometimes it's about the ones that get away, that keep us at it.
