Thumbs up Reel Class 7/21 AM Fluke Report - Excellent Fishing!!

Got in a 5:30-10AM trip this morning to fish local with the light rods and jigs. Before the trip we imposed an 18" minimum on fish we put in the box.

The First 45 minutes were slow as the incoming was still pouring in, but once the tide petered out and the W wind crapped out we had a good drift going and the fluke had the feedbag on, big time.

Basically lock n load fishing, loads of fish, tons of shorts, but enough quality to make it interesting. Our first boxer was a fish over 5# taken by Joe, and then another couple of real nice fish in the 20" range found their way to the box as well.

All morning long we picked away, having at least 2 fish on at a time for MOST of the trip. Around 9, Doc nailed a beautiful 7# 6 oz. fish on a green bucktail - his best of the season so far.

We headed for the dock at 10, and left the fish biting. We wound up boating ~175 fluke, with 10 of those being over 18" (and came home with us) - 1 escaped and is VERY lucky LOL. We had another 8 that were right at the 17.5" mark that should've came home but we decided to have some good karma on the boat with tournament season coming up. Out of those 18, 6 were in the 3-7# range --- we experienced some GREAT light tackle fishing!

Thanks again for a fantastic 'mini' trip.

We had a red hot bite from about 7:30-9:30 and even the last 30 minutes the bite was very good. To me, it doesn't get much better than shallow water, light tackle fluke bucktailing. Then throw in the average size of the fish we kept and you get one awesome morning of fluke fishing.

I had 3 keepers: a #7.6, a #5 and a #3.5. Also had several at 17.5"s that were released. The 4 of us each boated anywhere from 40-50 fluke. The fish in the river must be feeding extra good cause all of them (with the exception of those under 13"s) were very fat & plump.

One thing we all noticed was as hot as the bite was it seemed as if the fish would just lay on the bait and not attack it. You's bounce/jig your bucktail/teaser and allow it to pause for a few moments and then when you lifted to repeat the fish was there. Another thing these river fluke, no matter the size, once hooked fight like there is no tomorrow. More than a few times we all thought we had a nice fish only to put a 14"er on deck.

And a shout out to Joe who helped us discover a cheaper GULP juice--it definitely made a difference.

The alternative gulp juice sure was the trick! Great mini trip and tons of fun. At times we couldnt even get 3 or 4 bounces out of our bucktails without getting slammed. Hope the fishing stays good!
Tight lines,
Capt. Kenny
