Default Colonial Lake - 7/12/13

Was done with work on Fri by noon and was fishing by 1:15. Fished to about 4 PM @ Colonial Lake. It's a decent sized park pond/lake in Mercer County that I've never fished before. Started by throwing a 4" black senko. Water was pretty murky... And shallow in most areas. Managed one really small LMB as it started to drizzle. Switched over to a 1/4 oz white spinnerbait to add some flash in the dingy water. As I worked the bank, i noticed a bit of a slope and drop in a few areas so I slow rolled the spinnerbait and sure enough pay dirt. Nailed two fish in about 10 casts working the drop off. One was solid 2 lb'er and the other was larger, likely pushing the higher end of 2 lbs. Didnt hook up again after that and high-tailed it outta there in the midst of a downpour. Not a bad way to spend a few hours... Scratched the proverbial itch and had some success in a foreign piece of water.

Catch em' up!

Colonial used to be a great place to fish before they dredged it and the Cormorants moved in.

good info... when did that happen? I didnt see a lot of panfish on the bank. There was also a total lack of weeds. The fish I pulled out here healthy--thick and clean looking. I'm glad they've at least survived to fight another day.

It's been a few years now since they dredged it. The nasty black birds started showing up about that same time. Go under the RT. one bridge and try the stream part. I've caught a few breeder Rainbows in there in the past few years, also a few nice LMB in there, and for the carp guys I've seen some real monsters swimming.

Interesting. I saw stocking signs for 2011... Didnt see any updated ones for years after. Any idea as to what the depth is in there? I fished by the stream part by rt 1 and nada... Didnt throw the spinnerbait there, though. Just the senko. I also didnt attempt to fish the entire shoreline on the bowling alley side.

Bowling alley side was the best side, more cover there. They stock it with trout every year and even put 50 breeders in this year. The problem is those cormorants eat the trout up fast. The place is real shallow too not more than about 5 feet, there is the stream bed that runs pretty much right in the middle and it's about 8 feet there. I used to have good luck on LMB throwing Rapalas early in he morning and late in the afternoon. IMO Rosedale Lake, over in Pennington is a better place to go now.

I fished there once (Rosedale) but had my girlfriend's 4 yr old (now 5) son with me and I was paying attn to helping him catch sunnies and crappies. PM me if you have any insight on Rosedale. I'll be in Ewing until September and could use some info on spots in my area.

Thanks...
