Default Cicadas as Bait?

I am starting to see the larvae emerge in my yard.

They look like small Gulp when they first come up.

Has anyone ever tries these as bait? I am going to put some in the freezer and take out this weekend.

hey, you never know.

I imagine they'd be good for trout and panfish, esp. after a rain.

Unsure about the larvae, but last time the 17 year came out my father and I would find live adults and put them on a small hook and toss them out on the water. They would go crazy on the surface! Within seconds you'd have a nice Large mouth bass absolutely inhale these things!

Tough life to be in the ground for 17 years, finally come out to breed for a couple weeks, get caught, thrown on a hook and eaten...but it was pretty fun to see the bass come up and grab them....

Did the same and crushed the largemouth! Learned one thing though, make sure you remove one wing, otherwise they will fly you right back into the tree.

When I saw you reply to the post I was expecting to see - "Use them as bait? Are you crazy. Steam 'em, chill 'em and eat with cocktail sauce. Those are Philly Shrimp"

Going to try in the freshwater this weekend.
