Default Piking Tomorrow

I'm planning on going pike fishing tomorrow for the first time in the Passaic River. Planning on using eppinger five of diamonds, T-1 terminator, blue fox vibrax, and rat l trap. Not sure whether or not to use the wire leaders. Any advice?

are you using mono or braid? I use braid and tie direct for spinner baits. everything else I use a 6" bluefish nylon coated steel leader for.

many guys up north in the prime pike area of the passaic don't use leaders but where I fish the water clarity is poor. in the beginning I went without and had two bite offs and that was with 30lb mossy green power pro braid. since adding the leader I haven't lost one but I don't fish for them as much as the guys up north as they just aren't as prevalent near me. I use braid because the pike run for cover immediately and it also saves me lures casting around structure and hidden snags. the number one lure is the chartreuse and white spinner bait however I use a spoon where I am and target the bridge abutments, downed trees, and transition areas because I fish from the bank. hope this helps, good luck today!

You don't need a steel leader. I don't use a leader but will recomend a 20-30 lb flouro leader......

The one I caught last night was on 8# vanish fluro. But I think something a little heavier may be right. They fight pretty good and are assume looking fish. Good luck.
