Post Early morning bassin'

rode my bike to the pond today and arrived at 7. started off with a black scum frog with good results. caught 3 bass on it, and missed about 5 hits bc i am not experienced with topwater fishing. so the first one was basically the first topwater bass i ever caught.

the topwater action slowed down around 9 so i finished off the day with a black texas rigged weightless worm and picked off 2 more fish. all of them were around 1-2 pounds. a nice day even though i was bit by mosquitos and rained on.

Not too shabby, crusty. The more you fish with topwaters, the more you'll love it!

AGREED. Glad you gave topwater another try, it's very exciting and there are times it will FLAT OUT slam the fish. I have done well into October with topwaters so you still have some time to keep on using them.

I still make that mistake too sometimes but ya just can't help it when there's that much excitement involved.

nahh, affter the explosions i actually waited a good 3-4 seconds, when the line got tight, before setting the hook. i swear to god i didnt set the hook immediatley. they still wouldnt get hooked. and the ones i did catch were barley hooked on the outer lips.

3-4 seconds might a little too long actually. But still, 3 for 8 isn't all that bad for your first time with topwaters.

Once your hooked on top water action all the rest is just a dream

a top water explosion, even if a miss, is better than all rest

Personally, I get more of a rush from the top water bite...just seeing the bite...wanna hook up, but if not that's ok...next lily pad

Ultimate...15 + lb blues on top water plugs....agressive
