Damn that blows! What caused the fire?

The story told is an employee was patching a section of shrink wrap on the motors of a boat below ours, one rack over, and the heat gun apparently ignited the cover underneath the wrap. Sketchy explanation since that boat had twin outboards and the cover was probably 4 feet away from where the patch work was being done. That and the fire apparently happened 20 minutes after the employee performed the work. 12 boats were destroyed with as many if not more damaged. After looking at the ones damaged, I'm glad ours was actually totaled.

Nope decided to run 12v lights to be considerate to home owners as many of the areas we fish have a lot of houses right on the water. It is nice not talking over a generator but it is a pain making sure everything is fully charged before every trip. Pros and cons to everything

Hmmm... I guess it's something I can consider for my boat then as I have a pair of 31s(Lifeline GPL-31XT's) and a pair of 29s(Autocraft 29HM's). Do you run through a set or both sets of batteries in a night of shooting/fishing?

All four group 31s are hooked in parallel and I typically get about 10 hours or so, but they power the lights, navigation lights, few small interior led lights, stereo, and the kicker controls. 500w/12v = 41.6 amps to give you an idea how much the lights draw. Nothing else besides the stereo draws much and even the stero is minimal compared to the lights.

Gotcha so that's ballparking roughly 2.5hrs per battery on an average 100 amp hour rated battery to power the lights. Not bad for that all out purpose built system! If I run just a couple lights I think I could have enough juice on board to have some shooting fun.

Will do cheers!

Got a couple pics to post of the new rig all finished up. It's also got a Minn Kota MK440D onboard from my old boat for charging. I have swivel bases with pedestals that will mount the downriggers onto the Cannon tracks. Mayberry's did a real clean job with all the installs for me. They've been great to deal with. My last boat I built from the ground up with my friends but this time I let the pro's handle it.
