waxing boat help needed

I bought a 94 pro line boat a few weeks back and recently I removed some of the decals that were peeling and flaking off. There is still a decent bit of the adhesive on boat that needs to be removed. Also once i removed the decals where the decals were the fiberglass still looks buffed real nice since it was covered from decals and didnt fade like the rest of the boat. It still has some adhesive on in spots. my main question is how should i go about buffing and waxing the boat when I do it. should I sand the areas where the decals were once i remove the adhesive to make it blend with the rest of the boat before I buff the whole boat? hope this was not to confusing. I appreciate any advice.

I used goo remover from home depot to remove most of the glue and finished it off with a (very little bit) of acetone on a rag. don't let it stay on for long. I believe the only way to blend in the older faded hull and the pure gelcoat under the decals would be wet sanding. I did my 25 center by hand. It takes time but comes out great. Good luck with the new boat

there is a product called marine formula that will take the glue off and a plastic razor blade to remove the outline of the name take 1000 and up and wet sand the area it came out great. If you need any other help call me 908 902 2448

I had heard oven cleaner did the trick.

Acetone is dangerous and VERY reactive. Nail polish is only 10%. If not totally removed it will turn plastics to jelly.

I wiped down a plastic clock once. It evaporates Quickly. But keeps destroying even after evaporated.

Let me know if you're looking to replace the decals. Ordered a second set by accident and I'm sure it will be 10 years before I'd use em. I'd sell them at cost.

I had a similar project 4 years ago. After I got ALL the adhesive off and de-waxed, you could still see where the old name was. Then I went over it with 3M Imperial compound (a bit pricey) with a Makita polisher but the hull came out awesome.

Note: I cannot imagine doing this by hand. But using a heavy duty polisher requires that you pay very close attention to what you are doing and not push too hard or stay in one spot too long.

Then follow up with a good wax or polish.

No need to go crazy on this. Been doing this for years. Eventually the sun will do its job. On my own boat, I wet sanded nothing after removing the decals. Just the usual 3m cleaner/wax on a rotary every spring and a nice coat of Collinite and its done.
