Default Lake Musconetcong Monday

I decided last night after a winter of crappy Monday (my day off) forecasts I couldn't waste today.

My dad and I hit up Lake Musconetcong again despite not having any reliable intel to go on. Started out with the widest tip up spread we have ever set out (300 yards wide) and then went to work with the jigging rods. Kept moving until we found a few willing biters. Slow day over all, only 5 flags in 4 hours, two dropped baits, one small perch and one pickerel and a 2nd pickerel bite off right at the hole. Jigging produced better numbers but mostly small fish, although we probably had 6 or 7 perch between 10"-12".

Weather was amazing. I actually fished most of the day in a t-shirt and thermal top, no hoodie, no jacket. The way my face is feeling, I also think I might have picked up my first sun burn of the season as well.

After not getting out most of the winter, today was a great spirit lifter.

Nice to hear of some pickerel caught, LM. With the stained water resulting from efforts to rid water chestnuts, we encountered no pickerel at all during open water season last year. We did get some bass in May, but catches were not up to what to used to be, and Fred & I got skunked, end of August. We never, ever used to get skunked.

I found that place to be way tough after they treated for those chestnuts as well. Populations had to be affected or something. It was even tough to get anything off the rocks which is usually good for something. It will be interesting to see what this year brings.

whatever they did to the weeds didn't work...i mean last year, weren't there still plenty of weeds? i only went there once and did ok with senkos, considering it was super windy and i had no boat control. I've seen lakes where they literally killed 90% of the weeds and no that will mess crap up!
