Default Raritan River question

Hello everyone.

I ran into an old friend along the banks of the D&R Canal today. Of course we talked fishing but he asked me if I have fished the Raritan recently. He was drifting the river recently and he said he found a large school of an unknown fish under his canoe. He described them as approximately 2 ft long, black on top with a white bottom/fins. I didn't see them yet but can't imagine what they could be. He said he even saw a couple of big Muskies circling around them as well.

Any thoughts?
