![]() Last year, before we sold our boat, I would stop at Victor's Fish Market on my
way down. They're on Adams Street in Newark. I remember $4.99 /lb and maybe 8 or more per lb. We'd ask for 10 bucks worth and my brother & I would get plenty. Surely the prices have gone up in a year, like everything else. They don't open till 0700 though, so I used to schedule my trips accordingly. We kept a homemade eel pen at the boat for any survivors. Have only fished for stripers twice this year on a friend's boat, and shopped a local B & T shop. We paid $ 2.25 an eel. Tight lines all. |

![]() Of course I can't do it, being 250 miles from the jersey shore, but couldn't some of you guys simply fish the salt creeks in Monmouth County, or the Shrewsbury, Navesink or Raritan and catch dozens of eels a night? For free.
I used to catch tons of eels down there, even during the day, but at night it was just ridiculous... Perhaps things have changed... bob |

![]() We sell them for $1.85 each. / $19 a dozen. So your getting like 1.5 free with the dozen purchase. You cant go by the weight, because depending on the size of the eels....your cost will vary per eel. Sometimes you can get 20 eels, others 6 eels, per pound.
To be honest.....I would pay more for the smaller eels, if I were looking for them. But, we are stuck with what is delivered to us. The other thing about buying them.....there are cheaper places out there, but the eels are dead 4 hrs after they hit our tank. So you get what you pay for sometimes. ![]() |
