Default Monksville Res. 10/24: Nighttime Topwater Slab Crappie

Did the after dark special at Monksville tonight after work. Left the south boat launch and trolled crankbaits and herring along the dropoffs with no dice, so we decided to make a run to the north side. Within a few casts in a cove in 6ft. of water, I landed this guy on a big jointed floating rapala. Measured close to 2lbs. on the digital scale, by far my personal best Crappie.

On a side note, of all the times I've fished Monksville, I've never hooked up with a Crappie, much less one this respectable. Anyone else ever catch these guys here?

I have never fished Monksville but can tell you that big crappies like topwater. My PB of 2 lbs. hit a popper back in July and I have had several other similar experiences.

I've fished monksville a bunch of times, but nope, never had a crappie there. Yeah, the big ones do like topwater at night (jitterbug is my favorite night topwater lure).
