Thumbs up Raritan river 9/23/17:

9/23/17: Central Jersey Stream Team cleaning a 1.5 mile stretch of the Raritan river from the Queens Bridge Bound Brook/South Bound Brook to Riverside Park in Piscataway. Big finds were a sleeper sofa and very large blocks of solid rubber. Lots of metal and tires pulled from the river today.
The land team cleaned the area adjacent to Riverside Park.
Thank you Piscataway Township for the catered lunch and taking away the trash..

Thumbs up Re: Raritan river 9/23/17:

Unbelievable amount of hard work here! And it just keeps on coming because there's too many dirt bags congested in certain areas. Thanks for all the hard work ladies and gents!

Land team did an excellent job and gathered a bunch of trash, more than I expected.
River team had a great eye for some junk barely exposed and left nothing behind- even if it meant digging it out of the ground. There was some great commitment. Especially from the robotics team.

Neat story: When we started I came across a mattress and convinced others to haul it out.
Mike got a knife while George and I held it over the canoe and cut holes in it to let the water drain. Something was off however, he was stabbing the center of the mattress while on our end we still felt movement. I asked George "Do you feel that ?" and suggest that there's something probably inside. Mike cut a larger hole in the fabric, flipped it, and a lil catfish comes SWIMMING OUT.
After getting the whole thing on the canoe, Jens decided to cut the fabric on it more and it revealed another cat, a sunnie, and an eel.

We had a ~2 foot long eel in a canoe too but I forget what it came out of.
