Talking Multispecies at the Canal

Day off, fish on! I headed down to the Lambertville section of the Delaware Canal to get some fishing in. They were biting today boys!! The hurricane coming in and the overcast skies seemed to help. I caught 38 fish total;

9 bluegill
4 largemouth
18 redbreast
2 pumpkinseed
1 black crappie (my first ever!!!)
2 yellow perch
2 smallmouth (Caught in Clinton on my way home)

I never really fished the Canal before, only walked by it, and it was filled with life. Saw turtles, a copperhead, blue herons, and tons more. Every fish caught today was caught on the legendary trout magnet in pink, all fish were released. I really wanted to catch a pickerel because I've never caught one before, but couldn't make it happen. However, the first larry I caught was SHREDDED by one, covered in lacerations and bleeding like crazy. Must've gotten bit while I was reeling him in!

All in all I had a great day and will definitely be returning to the Canal. Tight lines all!

Good work. I've no idea what stretch of the canal you hit since I've never fished lower than Manville, but id imagine it's the same throughout. Big bass, pickerel, cats, crappie... you name it, are in there.

One time I caught a bunch of pickerel, another home got my PB, but haven't caught one in the last 4 trips I've been there, which is usually when I switch gears from the Raritan.

Do be ready to get bit off if you're just using a trout magnet with normal line, however. I've been lucky with them with Texas rigged stuff.

Nice job, dude! Been down that way for Shadfest 3 out of the past 5 years, and always make the wife walk along the canal there to see if we can see anything swimming. There's usually a couple of guys trout fishing but catching nothing, a couple of frogs, and a couple of sunfish. Haven't seen much else in there, but it is usually murky. Anything can wind up in there though, so it's definitely worth a shot. Glad you pulled a sweet mixed bag out of it.
