Default Rvr 7/9

Got on the water around 5:30 this morning which was a bit later than I hoped but no crowd at that hour so all good. Weather was cool and a decent breeze blowing.

Plugged away at the rocks with a plastic worm and I lost count how many rockbass I caught but it was well north of 10. Aggressive pests those things, I lost 2 dink bass too.

Around 8 AM the peoples started to show up an encroach on me. Paddled away a bit to an area I always mark fish but haven't had much luck catching anything in the past and put on one of the new 3.5 in Keitechs I picked up at The Sporting Life last weekend (when our governor was doing his beached whale thing) and 2 casts later I land a solid LMB north of 2 LBS. I throw him back and a couple of casts later I hook into something, not much of a fight, and I'm a little confused when I bring it to the surface but it turns out to be my 1st ever perch out of RVR and a new PB for me too. Just weird to catch it on that lure and in July too. It managed to unbutton itself when I went to unhook it but I had the GoPro running and grabbed a pic from that.

Had to call it a day a little after 8:30 to tend to home duties. Glad our parks are back open!

cool report, those rockys can be fun to catch. that perch looked like a decent one. nice job avoiding the masses as well. i like the floats on your rods. i made leashes for my rods in case i end up in the drink, you have to be safe if you flip over god forbid.

Rock bass on ultra lites is fun. Catching them on bass set ups is a bit much for me as it's way overkill (they hydroplane the surface with my 7:1 baitcaster, lol). They've often been a cure-all for the outright skunk though.

I have rod leashes and a tether up front for the rods on the yak too, but the floats I find a bit easier when switching rods as there's no tangles or snags. Fortunately I haven't taken that dip yet but as you said being safe comes first so making the pricey gear retrievable is a must.

Sounds like a good morning dude! Those Keitechs are killer baits! The Perch in RV, if you can find them, are friggin huge!
