Default Green Nasty Water to Blue Heaven

Got together with my daughter and my cousin Carl yesterday and with the gorgeous weather decided to make the run offshore. Both of them have never been out that far before.
Ran across all the usual middle ground spots nothing but green nasty water about 74 degrees. We did manage to jig a few Chub Mackerel which would be handy later. Got to the far end of the Glory Hole and was looking at a huge ball of balloons when something large made a couple of impressive splashes. Trolled that area for awhile with no love so decided to pick up and run to the Chicken Canyon. Got out to the edge of the CC and found absolutely beautiful blue 75 degree water. Came up on the first pot and threw a handful of mackerel chunks and 20 pound Mahi were all over them. Caught one lost one and they were gone. We hopped from pot to pot for a few hours and ended the day with four nice sized Mahi and a few Bluefish that hit a small white and blue chugger.
Great day on the water.

Where did you leave out of Fluke?? The reason I ask is because some of the satellite shots I've been looking at would indicate some cleaner water has moved into the northern mudhole area from the BA south to the Monster Ledge. Once south of the Monster it gets crappy and does not clean up until the chicken..

If you ran out of Belmar or Manasquan straight to the glory you were likely to the south of it. If you ran out of Sandy Hook you should have run right through it in which case my sat images are way off.

Gerry we left out of Shark River. The original plan was to run to the Arundo and start trolling but I had seen here that there was clean water at the Chicken. It was so calm in the morning and the wind would be at our back coming home we decided to go for it. My boat is small at 22 feet but I have the fuel and all the safety equipment. My boat has a new motor and gets great mileage so when you get the weather it's time to fish. I always file a float plan with two family members one of which is very experienced so I make it as safe as it can be. We had so much fun catching those Mahi. Just wish summer was longer.

Sounds like you are being very safe and prudent about your trips off into the deep Fluke.

I hear you on the summer not being long enough.. Love those Mahi too and wish we had a longer inshore season. It does however make the days you can get out that much more meaningful.

Hope to see you out there the next few weeks...

Not that I've heard... Might try getting out next week and will probably start just south of there...BTW no buoy there any longer.
