Proud dad day!
I had planned on going shad fishing Sunday morning and asked my 13 yr old daughter if she wanted go, but she said it was too early for her to get up. I was surprised when I was leaving the house to find her running after me saying she wanted to go (she never gets up before 6). Fished Bulls Island and instantly hit into Shad. She caught her first shad and several after that, even a small mouth on a shad dart. She was very excited! Great dad daughter morning!

Re: Proud dad day!
It gets more complicated year after year raising children in today's world BUT take your son or daughter fishing and their reactions are no different today than they were 50 years ago! The expression on your daughters face is fantastic and says it all! It's a trip I'm sure she'll never forget! And the title of your post obviously echoes your sentiments! It's almost as if social media, the internet, cell phones, computer apps etc. etc cease to exist for a day when a child is introduced to one of the best things in life.....nature. For a child to have that experience and for us to share it is one of life's greatest privileges. I honestly believe for all the reasons we fish, introducing a child early on in their lives can be a life altering experience. It teaches respect, for the fisheries, for nature and respect for life in general. I'd challenge everyone on this board to take a child, your son / daughter, niece / nephew, neighbors or friends child fishing at least once this year to give more of today's youth a chance to experience arguably one of life's greatest experiences! You'll be changing someone's life!
Trevordog thanks for sharing your very special moment with your daughter, it brings back memories I'm sure for many of us of the time we were introduced into the sport by someone close to us. I'm sure your day was made when your daughter came bolting out of the house to join you! GREAT stuff! |

Thumbs Up!
My wife got me into shad fishing a couple years ago. Her father started taking her when she was 7. |
