Awesome Ice Bite 1/31
Got out bright an early hoping for some big Esox Sunday morning, but nothing was biting, so I packed it in and changed venues around 10am. Got to the new lake and popped a few test holes...5.5"-6" everywhere I checked, nice. From 1030-3pm, flags were flying like I had not experienced in a while. The bites would come in waves, including a hectic Bass/Pickerel double header from tipups 30ft from each other. Jigged during the slower times and managed some nice Yellow Perch as well on small metals tipped with a shiner head. I went through 2 dozen shiners very quickly, but luckily ScowardNJ joined the action in the afternoon, bringing more bait and doing very well himself with numerous Bass and Pickerel on bait and some Crappies jigged up. No monsters for either of us, but every Bass was surprisingly good sized and almost all around the size pictured. I finished off at 3pm with 20 fish (16 on bait, 4 on jigs), and Scott managed probably 10 fish during his limited time. Once the sun got hot, it started laying the smackdown on the ice! What started at 6" was 5" and less as I left! I hope this isn't the end of the 2k16 Ice Season
 .
